Tamaqua is the only borough in Pennsylvania selected for the City Revitalization and Improvement Zone (CRIZ) program—making it the pilot for this state initiative. Only two cities, Lancaster and Bethlehem, also participate in CRIZ.
This unique program helps Tamaqua reinvest state tax dollars into underused properties, encouraging new development, supporting local business growth, and creating jobs. CRIZ is jointly administered by the Department of Revenue, the Department of Community and Economic Development, and the Governor’s Budget Office.
Learn more about how CRIZ supports Tamaqua's revitalization.
If you're a business owner, property owner, or non-profit located within Tamaqua’s designated CRIZ area, you must complete a simple online form each year by June 15th to remain compliant and avoid a $1,000 fine. This ensures that all eligible tax dollars are captured and reinvested locally.
The report can be filed by you or your tax preparer via the Department of Revenue's NIZ/CRIZ/MIRP Report login page.
Stay involved and informed—CRIZ Authority meetings are open to the public and held on the third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Tamaqua Borough Hall.
To confirm meeting dates and times, call the Borough Office between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at 570-668-0300.
